Gehry's dream to be an architect has been evident since he was young. From an early age, Gehry would collect items from his grandfather's hardware store as build imaginary homes and cities with them. Gehry's education was a good one, he studied at the University of Southern California and also Harvard University, however he dropped out of his studies here. Whilst Gehry was studying at the University of Southern California, he change he surname from Golaberg to Gehry in an effort to preclude anti-semitism. Studying at university wasn't the only time Gehry has spent in education, he has also been a professor of architecture at the University of Southern California. He was also a board member at the University of Southern California's school of architecture. frank Gehry is said to be among the most acclaimed architects of the 20th century, with his aright external firm based in Los Angeles. Gehry has been designing homes in Southern California since 1980 on a regular basis, and in 2011 he revieled his very first skyscrapers, 8 spruce street in New York and the Opus Hong Kong tower in China. Another famous building that Gehry designed was the Walt Disney concert hall, which exceeded is budget by over one hundred and severe million dollars, which resulted in a lawsuit.
Gehry is called one of the most distinctive and easily recognisable designers of the 20th century, due to his use of materials such as corrugated cardboard. Gehry is known through the industry for his professionalism and his adherence to the budgets that have been set, despite complex and ambitious designs, in most cases. Frank Gehry's distinctive style is due to his post modern designs which is evident in his work such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and also the Guggenheim Museum in Bibao (Spain).
Gehry's post modern style is very deconstructivist, as if he is trying to break the modernist idea of form and flowing functions.
One of Gehry's most famous furniture series is the Easy Edges, which was produced from 1969 to 1973.
One of the most rewarding points of his career was when he won the Pritzker Prize in 1989. He also won the AIA Gold medal (1999), the National Medal of Arts (1998), the Order of Canada (2003) an the Praemium Imperiale (1992).
